Myself and my reading/writing history
Hello, my name is Sharron. I've been reading English books since I was a little baby because of my mother. English is one of her native languages, she would read English picture books and play games with me. Therefore, I have known many words and grammar before many kids. This also encouraged me to consume more English media and learn advanced words. I have been reading fanfic on the internet since elementary school, and although I gradually dropped that hobby since high school, I've never stopped consuming English media. I moved from texts to audio and visual, and I still watch English videos every day.
However, not until high school did I start writing a lot. The major reason was that I needed to prepare for the competition. I was a contestant in the skill competition, and one of the contests was writing within 30 minutes. The training was stressful, but it helped me with the upcoming entrance exam. Me and my group also composed an English essay together and signed up for a small competition, even though we didn't get the award, it was a great opportunity to practice writing. Now in college, I write for assignments but I have more opportunities to write about a topic and express my ideas. I have made many friends from other countries as well, so I write text messages all the time.
My hobbies & interests
I love to draw and listen to music. Drawing has been my hobby since childhood and I have been working with people and making money for a while now. All my skills are self-taught, I chose to study language solely because I want to get to know more foreigners, make friends, and expand my career. Besides these, I also love photography. I take photos of the scenery the most. I love to just walk around and find the smallest surprises in the city. Strangely enough, I don't like taking pictures of myself. I barely have selfies in my phone, almost all the photos of me are taken by my family and friends.
My expectations of this course
I expect this course to have a lot of reading and writing, especially focusing on one topic. I love to do research and write down my ideas to share with other people. I'm not the best reader, as it takes me a long time to finish a book because I have a hard time focusing. I consider myself a decent writer who can express and convey messages clearly enough, and also because my writing for the last course (critical literacy) was praised by many people. To conclude, I would love it if this course could allow me to write and explore the ideas of social issues and much more, but be more loose on the reading part.
Hi Sharron!
ReplyDeleteOh, I wonder what kind of fanfic you used to read! I wrote a couple of unfinished stories on fanfiction.net before.
You mentioned joining some competitions about writing. I am curious about that as well. I don't know anything about writing contests. It sounds thrilling and a bit unnerving at the same time.
What kind of drawing style do you like the most? I used to draw when young, but I lost that expertise. I wish I could join a painting club or classes in the future. I satisfy my needs with singing. I cannot live without it. About selfish (my bestie called it like that by mistake, and I love any lapsus linguae), I am with you. I like to take pictures of others, not me. So, most of the pictures of me are taken by friends and family as well.
I think that you don't read "fast" doesn't make you a bad reader or not a good enough reader, quite the opposite. There are books we can devour because the storyline is exciting and easy. While other books that can be life-changers take time to digest. Take whatever time you need. :)
I hope you can have a pleasant experience in this class.
Hello Pao
DeleteI read fictions of my favorite animations! I love watching cartoons and animations on YouTube.
The competition I mentioned is a skill competition among vocational high schools, it has cooking, designing, accounting, etc. It's a big national contest, and my category was called "business English."
I make digital art and animations! I've been making art since childhood. I'm glad to find someone who is similar to me.
Thank you for the reassurance, I hope to have fun in this class as well.
