Log 1

During my childhood, I used to read comic books in my free time. I loved Detective Conan a lot so that I often borrowed many comic books from the library. However, after getting in junior high school, I barely read but focused on studying. Even now, I still doesn't have reading habbits because of my preference of visual thinking. As for my writing history, I have started to learn English writing since my third grade of high school. The teachers told me how to write different kinds of themes and some basic writing skills.

My hobbies and interests are listening to K-pop music and collecting official merchandise of my favorite idols. K-pop music and idols really give me great emotional support and energy to cheer me up, so I like to stream their music, purchase albums or merchandise, and also go to concerts to see them in person. As the picture shown above, it was my favorite idols’ concert I recently went to.

In this course, I expect to help me read more because I need some reasons to motivate myself to read, think, and write. Also, I hope to develop skills in analyzing and producing multimodal texts, such as making a video. To be honest, if I can meet my expectations I mentioned above, I will definitely feel a sense of fulfillment in this course.

I consider myself more of a writer than a reader, as I enjoy sharing my perspectives with others through social media. However, I sometimes struggle with being persuaded by others’ words, so I want to learn how to be firm with my thoughts but also think of different perspectives and then combine together.

  1. Hi Kelly!
I think you are of a reader than you think!
Comic books are awesome, as they involve the use of pictures to convey ideas. They have nothing to envy a "proper novel".

I am pretty sure you like the watch the music videos of your artists, and try to analyze the reasons why they include A, B and C in their performances. You might have also pay attention to the lyrics and got meaning from them. All of that involves reading!

I hope you can find (more) joy in reading in this term and beyond!
