The book I borrowed for my reading log is called "The Skeleton Tree" by Iain Lawrence. Its story depicts two boys who need to quickly learn how to survive in the wilderness when their boat sinks off the coast of Alaska. At the first glimpse, I was intrigued by the cover of this book. Two boys standing on the edge of the cliff, experiencing the fear and learning to grow without other adults. The process of them bonding and taking care of each others triggers my curiosity. By the way, it is my first time reading a survival novel. Picking up a new genre is an exciting moment.
For the first week, I read about 4 chapters. Chris, a young boy whose sailing journey with his lovable Uncle Jack started off, was stroke by a severe storm. When he woke up, the only non-talkative member, Frank, was besides him. And his uncle went missing. Seeing the sailing dream of Chris being teared up by the weather is heart-breaking. Since in these short chapters, Chris' love for his family was completely expressed. However, the reliance on adult was forced to cut off all of a sudden. Although I still do not understand the meaning behind the skeleton tree, I am looking forward to unveil its moral through my journey with two teenagers with genuine souls on the island of wilderness.
