The book I read is called The Family Fang, written by Kevin Wilson. The reason I chose this novel was that its fascinating and weird cover caught my attention when I walked by and saw it on the bookshelf in the school library. Its cover shows four members of a family standing, but the two kids are wearing masks and looking at each other. As soon as I saw the cover, I really wanted to know what happened to this family and the stories behind those two kids. Therefore, I started my reading journey with that book from that moment.
After reading chapters one and two, which roughly describe the lives of the two kids, Annie and Buster, after they became adults, I found the first chapter a bit depressing for readers. For instance, in the opening chapter, the author briefly mentions that Annie and Buster's careers did not go well after they grew up, and the reason was entirely due to their parents. I remember that in chapter two, a large portion is dedicated to their parents' series of extremely bizarre performance art pieces. For example, the Fang parents staged a dramatic scene on a plane, capturing the attention of everyone around them. I believe Annie and Buster must have been very unhappy and in constant pain since they were young, as they were forced to witness their parents' series of outrageous performance art from a young age. In my opinion, nobody likes to be forced into anything. Let alone a child—I can't imagine the great impact this would have had on them as they grew up.
Actually, I quite like the beginning of this book. The author points out the problems existing within this family right from the start. Although there are some passages where I don't understand the meaning of a few sentences, I can at least understand the general message the book is trying to convey at the beginning, which also makes me want to keep reading. By the way, I noticed that while reading, I occasionally get distracted by things around me. I hope that through reading more and more, I can practice improving my concentration and reading speed, haha!

Interesting story! From the cover, I would have imagine the kids were weird, but not the parents.
ReplyDeleteWe really cannon judge a book by its cover!
You have written a good log, but there is still space for improvement.
ReplyDeleteYour reflections on the characters and their dynamics are insightful. To make your analysis more personal, consider including some personal experiences or predictions. This will help the reader to connect with the text on a deeper level.
You could also mention a couple more examples from the book so readers can see how bizarre the parents are.
All of that will help to expand your text and make it richer.
