Why have I chosen this book:
I was drawn by its book name. I love thinking, especially philosophical questions. Thinking can slow down your mind, and think about the things you wouldn't focus on in your normal life. Creativity is a valuable trait that humans have. The greatest invention came from the urge to solve a problem. Therefore, I would like to learn to "think like a freak" and stimulate myself to have the greatest ideas.
Which part am I interested in:
The example in the book made me think about the choices I've made. The example was about soccer, the author asked us, which way would you kick when you're going for a penalty shot? The answer may be left or right, based on how well you control the ball. Who in the right mind would kick the ball in the center? The goalkeeper doesn't have to move and you'll cause an embarrassing scene. However, the goalkeeper usually predicts you going for left or right, going for the center would catch them off-guard and is actually a great idea. Humans are afraid of taking risks and making mistakes, so we wouldn't go for a seemingly crazy solution, but what if that solution goes straight to the point and you don't have to go all the way around to reach the same result? That's what this book is about, helping you to think like a freak and go beyond boundaries.
How do I feel about this book:
This book inspired me to think for myself. It's not easy to gain the bravery to "be different." People would simply follow the herd to not make a fool of themselves. However, the book is not telling the readers to be like a know-it-all and telling people what they should do, instead, it's encouraging us to propose some interesting ideas. A question that no one really asked and gave a solution to. To see the aspects that you would never think of. This practice gave me insights into thinking outside the box like my mother always tells me to. My career involves creativity and I constantly need ideas, but I am a person who is afraid of taking risky paths, and this made me miss out on many opportunities. Not only to my work, but this can also apply to teamwork. When we choose to take a traditional path, the results are guaranteed and less likely to fail, but after it, I always ask myself, did I like what I did? I could've done it in the way that I truly wanted, I wanted a breakthrough but I didn't dare to do it, leaving myself with regrets. As I went further into the book, I started to get that the author is trying to tell us "the choices are yours." I would try to learn the ways this book suggests, because I truly want to go back to the time when I thought freely as a child, not to be bound by reality.
From the reading history and hobbies you shared in your log 1, I could see a 'smart kid' (literally shown in the pic of you, XD) who has lots of bold ideas. This 'boldness' is a composite of creativity, willingness to try new things, but also discreetness when stepping into a new zone. Your fear may be a result of the 'discreetness,' which may not be bad and in turn will continue to help prevent possible 'reckless' acts or decisions! Good reflection!
