Log 2

The book I read this week is called “ Diary of a Wimpy Kid-The Ugly Truth,” which was written by Jeff Kinney.  I borrowed this book from the school library. As soon as we saw these series of books in the library, one of our classmates said that it’s really interesting and recommended we read it. After briefly browsing through the book’s content, I was deeply attracted to it. Unlike most books that are filled with dense texts, this one features a charming illustration accompanying each paragraph. This is the first time I’ve been so eager to read a book. In less than a week, I’ve already read a third of the book.

At the beginning, the main character mentioned that he had a fight with his best friend, Rowley Jefferson. He always thought Rowley would come crawling back to him, but with the school year approaching, things are not turning out as he had hoped. This paragraph reminds me of the story from elementary school when I had a falling out with my good friends.  I think the reason for the argument is ridiculous-it's just because they were jealous of my better grades. I remembered I was really depressed at that time. I had been trying to lift myself up and make new friends, but as the main character mentioned in the book, making new friends wasn’t an easy task. Still, I'm grateful for this experience because it helped me understand who is suitable to be a friend and who isn’t.

In addition, there is a funny trope in the book. One day, the boy found that Rowley went to the rock concert because he posted the pictures online, and he was jealous that Rowley had more fun than him. He didn’t want people to think his life is lame, so he took some pictures and used a photo-editing program to show how great things are going for him. This made me start thinking about how people today also edit their photos because they feel their appearance doesn’t measure up to others. Actually, I think it’s not necessary. Everyone is unique, and we should face ourselves with confidence rather than trying to cater to others.

Although the main character in the book describes their stories with a humorous tone, these stories are still very relatable to our own lives. We can try to think about the meanings behind. This book is suitable for everyone to read, and I hope everyone can get a chance to read this series of books at least once. I also hope I can finish reading all of these series of books.
