This book, *Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck*, was one of my favorite books as a child. Seeing it again in my school library brought back many childhood memories. When I was young, I read it with great interest, finding the protagonist Greg’s life full of amusing everyday challenges. As I grew up, I gradually forgot about these books. But now, as a college student, I decided to revisit it and see if it would still resonate with me, wondering what new insights or reflections I might gain from these stories.
This book tells the story of Greg’s various troubles and challenges in his school life. In *Hard Luck*, Greg faces a new problem: his best friend Rowley gets a girlfriend, leaving Greg feeling abandoned. As he navigates these emotional challenges, he begins relying on a magic 8-ball to make decisions, hoping to use luck to solve his problems and uncertainties.
Though I haven’t finished reading the book, my feelings toward it differ from when I was younger. Back then, I focused more on the jokes and Greg’s silly actions, but now I can better understand Greg’s confusion and anxiety about growing up, particularly when it comes to friendship changes and the complexities of relationships. When a close friend starts dating someone, it disrupts the usual routines. Even if we feel disappointed or out of place, we should genuinely wish our friends well and adjust our mindset. This book also reminds me that, no matter what life we face, life’s "luck" and "decisions" are always unpredictable, but it’s precisely this uncertainty that makes life full of surprises. Through its humorous tone, the book also teaches me that we should face challenges with a light-hearted and optimistic attitude.
