Welcome to the PBL reading and writing course, in which we will create meaning via various multimodal semiotic resources and smart technologies, which is highlighted by the term multiliteracies. Any form of meaning-making will be allowed, with language, image, and sound together. You can see how the definition of literacy has been broadened, making our works more creative, innovative, touching, and fun! (Certainly, more tiring and tiresome also, XD!)
Nowadays, an integrated work of images and text is welcome among readers of all kinds, online or offline. Moving images (filming) are even more popular among youngsters, who are eager to offer their ideas, thoughts, and understandings of their lived worlds. They also expect to share the emotions, feelings, frustrations, and joys that make them who they are. My course design aims for you to bravely experiment with all kinds of tools and media to express and communicate with the world without losing your authenticity and uniqueness.
I am now posting my own photo here to show you how I look. Reading is a must in my daily life, and doing research on reading and writing is my specialty and a duty I have been shouldering since I began my teaching career in college. Sharing with others my belief in reading and its radiant effects on language learning and personal growth is a responsibility I prescribe for myself as an educator and researcher. I am also a mother of two grown-up children, loving to cook and watch movies. I also enjoy reading books in Mandarin, attending speech events, and discussing movies with friends, like discussing literary works.
I am now inviting you to do the same by posting your first post with one photo of yourself, telling me about your reading/writing history, hobbies and interests, and your imagination of this course. What do you expect from this course? What will you do to help yourself learn with fulfillment in this course? Do you consider yourself a reader/writer? If not, what do you expect of me to help you?
I'd like you to practice logging into this blog by posting your first log, and please title it as "log 1." But first, you need to have a Gmail account. See you soon!
