This week, I kept reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth. I happened to come across the topic of responsibility, and I was surprised to find that the main character and I had similar experiences. Greg’s dad wanted him to start waking himself up in the morning, so Greg tried many ways to help himself wake up; however, he failed every time. This made me reflect on my own experience. My mom used to come to my room and wake me up every morning. As I gradually grew up, she thought it was time for me to learn to wake myself up. Unfortunately, I also failed repeatedly. My mom bought me a lot of alarm clocks, ranging from regular ones to very loud ones. However, every time the alarm went off, I naturally got up to turn it off and then went back to sleep. I still didn’t get up until my mom came to wake me. My mom always said she didn’t know what I would do once I went to college.
I believe that being responsible is something everyone can do; it just depends on whether you choose to do it or not. Now that I'm living alone in college, my mom can't come to wake me up every day, so I have to set my alarm clock to wake myself up. This is something I could never have imagined before, but when I had to face it, I naturally adapted. When everything must be faced on my own, I have to take responsibility for myself. Every time I wake up on my own, I realize that taking responsibility is about being accountable for my actions and decisions. It involves understanding the consequences of my choices and making an effort to improve myself.
By the way, up to now, I’ve noticed that many events in Greg’s diary are similar to things that happened to me in the past. Reading this book has not only been entertaining but has also brought back many memories of my earlier days. We all used to be that “wimpy kid”!
