Daisy just passed the message from the class: more than half of you cannot attend the online class. Understood.
Then, please note that I have uploaded two materials on MOODLE: One handout contains two essays, a pro essay and a student essay. They are all very good samples that give you the feel for how to write a good personal story that's meaningful not only to yourself but also to the readers.
Note also that the student essay shows marginal notes that tell each paragraph's main purpose/focus, just as the practice we did last week, so you know there must be a reason for each of your paragraphs to be there.
Good writing allows readers to imagine and relate; in other words, it will generate images in their minds when making meaning out of reading. That's what we call "vividness." To further enrich such vividness, images provided by the authors along with the text become increasingly crucial in the meaning-making process for both the author and the viewer (reader), more of a decoration in your composition (video or essay). They may represent a complete message (meaning) independently or extend or augment the meaning of the text.
Next week, we'll begin discussing multimodality in meaning-making and multiliteracies, the current practice of literacies in this era.
Actually, I understand that you need time to adjust to my way of teaching. I am also learning to adapt to your pace of learning (without decreasing too much of the materials I have planned for this course).
Anyway, see you next Wed!
