Week 6

Dear all,

Time really flies, and so do the assignments! Ha!

I have read 90% of your essays, and my assistant Joy will send back your essays (with my comments and grades), the scores of your logs 2 and 3, and the vocabulary results you have been curious about. The other two are late submitters; I need more time to read them. I hope to send them back by tomorrow evening.

When you get back your essays, I hope you will consider my suggestions for improving your writing. Once again, you can choose to follow all comments or not, but please explain why not. Next time, please list all items in one Word file (no separate files), including your draft 3, outline 3, and explanations of why you choose not to change the parts I comment on.

NOTE: Do Not Submit the PDF FILE. It took time to convert them all back to Word so that I could make marginal notes!

For tomorrow's class, I'll first give general comments on your essays based on my observations. Then, we'll spend some time talking about how to introduce and conclude your essay. There are quite a few strategies to help. I still want to read two narrative essays with you to give you more of the "feel" for writing a personal narrative that changed your mindset, your decision-making, your path, etc. I hope those mentioned above will help you revise your drafts for Essay 2.

The third hour will be the first step into multimodality and multiliteracies. The sudden typhoon day off somehow broke my plan, but Louis's coming cannot be changed. So he will visit our class and give a one-hour workshop about photography, imaging, and using images to represent your story. Next week, I'll upload some handouts on digital storytelling and storyboarding.

  1. There are still wrong labels (3 for Log1, 3 for log2, and 4 for log3)!
