Week 7

Dear all,

For tomorrow, we will work on the following:

1. Let's "chat" about your reading and reading logs. For example, how much time to read for a week is the most helpful for building a reading habit? Do you need to have such a habit? Please note that I may not hope you write a lot, but I do pray that you'll read a lot daily. Reading and thinking are the foundations of your imagination, creative and expressible imagination, instead of chaotic, incomprehensible fancy. Being able to verbalize your imagination and visualize it with more artistic orchestration makes meanings fuller and your communication more attractive. That's why we have to read, write, and compose multimodally.

2. We'll discuss again how an essay structure should look like in most cases and see if your D1E2 can fit in such an organization. Then, to address the problem that most of you are troubled with, we'll see what the textbook chapter suggests on giving a good title for your essay. In addition to essay titles, introduction and conclusion are not easy parts, either. You can check your own essays and see what strategies you have applied.

3. Let's read "Replanting my roots" (one essay I had wanted to read last week), a personal narrative related to her background and a social issue, racism, as supporting material for your personal narrative that you are working on now. Again, we can use the essay structure to see if this essay can be organized into it.

4. If time allows, I'll give a short presentation on "Technologies of Self" to prepare you for the first digital story you are about to compose.

5. For the last hour, Paulina will visit our class again and teach us how to work with ChatGPT. See, I am not against it (since I cannot prevent it, XD!), but I want you to work with it strategically and legally.
